The Challenge
Fragmented workflows, plus the need for greater visibility into patient progress
OrthoVirginia had long used Medbridge to support therapist continuing education and patient exercise programs, but a lack of insight into what patients were doing between visits—along with a system-wide initiative to increase Epic MyChart adoption—prompted the team to explore integrating Medbridge with Epic. Therapists needed better visibility into patient engagement, and the organization needed a simpler, more efficient experience for providers and patients.
The Solution
Seamless Epic integration for smoother workflows and stronger patient insights
OrthoVirginia partnered with Medbridge to implement a complete Care platform integration directly within Epic. Medbridge’s integration team worked closely with OrthoVirginia’s IT and Rehab leadership to plan, test, and execute a multi-phase rollout. The first phase integrated Medbridge into Epic Hyperspace, enabling clinicians to create patient records, build and assign exercise programs, and automatically generate documentation—all without leaving Epic.
In the second phase, OrthoVirginia launched MyChart integration for patients, allowing them to access their Medbridge Care programs directly through the MyChart portal. By promoting digital program shares over printed versions, the team gained valuable patient engagement data, improving care visibility and enabling therapists to make better informed clinical decisions.

“Fewer logins is always better for the patient and the provider. It removes barriers for us and reduces the support burden for us significantly. Medbridge's tight integration with Epic is something other vendors just didn't have.”

The Results
Significantly higher digital engagement and education ROI
By integrating Medbridge directly into Epic and expanding patient access through MyChart, OrthoVirginia has achieved easier, more efficient workflows and stronger engagement from both patients and clinicians. Providers are actively embracing the transition and sharing programs digitally with greater frequency, while patients are logging in and engaging with their care plans more consistently.
As a result, clinicians now have valuable new data points to better connect patient activity with clinical progress. The improved visibility has led to increased program adoption and deeper connections between home and in-clinic care. This builds on a partnership that has also already delivered significant financial returns, including substantial cost savings on continuing education and a proven ROI on the Medbridge investment.

Significant Education ROI
Medbridge’s Education platform also delivered major cost savings for OrthoVirginia’s rehab group. “We’ve never had a situation with Medbridge where we’ve tried something and it failed. We’ve tried a lot of different platforms for different things and not had success.”
