Parkinson’s diseases are NOT all the same. This course will clarify the clinical subtypes (phenotypes) of PD and define the opportunities for intensity within the rehabilitative and disease management (wellness) of each, from tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease (TD) through postural impairment gait disorder (PIGD) and including considerations of both nonmotor impairments and genotypes of young-onset PD (YOPD). Learners will be exposed to an action-packed and application-filled course that readies them for person-specific clinical success.

Learning Objectives
  • Develop examinations that are person and phenotype specific for PwPD in an effort to objectify function in mobility and in daily activities
  • Prioritize interventions that are person and phenotype specific for PwPD in an effort to ensure increased functional independence in mobility and participation in daily activities
  • Create educational tools, including home programs, that are person and phenotype specific for PwPD
  • Formulate care plans around the nonmotor presentations of PwPD

Chapters & learning objectives

The Phenotypes of PD Defined

1. The Phenotypes of PD Defined

This chapter will define the phenotypes of PD using evidence and examples.

Intensity Expressions in Rehabilitation Across the Phenotypes of PD: Tremor Dominant (TD)

2. Intensity Expressions in Rehabilitation Across the Phenotypes of PD: Tremor Dominant (TD)

This chapter will reveal evidence-based tools that are phenotype specific for our patients with TD, PIGD, and nonmotor presentations vs. motor primary to determine functional compensation and restoration plans.

Intensity Expressions in Rehabilitation Across the Phenotypes of PD: PIGD and Dyskinesia

3. Intensity Expressions in Rehabilitation Across the Phenotypes of PD: PIGD and Dyskinesia

This chapter will reveal evidence-based tools that are phenotype specific for our patients with different presentations of PD who are seeking wellness and disease modification.

Intensity Expressions in Wellness and Disease Modification Across the Phenotypes of PD

4. Intensity Expressions in Wellness and Disease Modification Across the Phenotypes of PD

This chapter will explore potential effects of intensity on wellness and disease modification across the different phenotypes of PD.
